Press Releases

The Write Way celebrates 400 issues!

The Lone Ranger - taking audiences back to those thrilling days of yesteryear since 30 January 1933

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

An Australian SOHO writer has taken a radio hero from the Depression and used him as the focus for a new site designed to help writers around the world.

20 January, 2000; Brisbane, Australia

Home based business-woman, Jennifer Stewart, is preparing to launch her Lone Ranger Celebration site. "The purpose of the site is twofold," says Stewart. "I wanted to do something to mark the occasion of the first broadcast of the Lone Ranger radio serial, because it's taken such a prominent place in the memories of so many people.

"I also wanted to provide a site for people who would like to follow the lead of Fran Striker, the writer who developed the character and scripts for the early series of shows."

The Lone Ranger serials were the inspired creation of radio owner George Trendle and were designed to increase his audience during the black days of the Great Depression. His hero was a combination of Zorro and Robin Hood and aired for the first time on radio station WXYZ on 30 January 1933.

"The show had an immediate appeal," says Stewart, "because it provided an escape from the problems facing people at this time. It was soon taken up by other stations and later developed into the Saturday matinee serial at the movies and then into a television series."

Stewart's site http://www.write101.com provides a wealth of free help for both novice and experienced writers. "I know how difficult it is to get answers to the 'simple questions' on the 'net," she says, "so I set up these pages to explain the basics, like how to use the apostrophe, as well as how to write articles and stories for publication."

Jennifer Stewart has been running her Write101.com site from her home since November 1998. "After leaving teaching, I decided that I still wanted to be involved with helping people to improve their writing, " she says. "I love the variety - one day I'll be writing a press release for an alternative health site in Canada, the next a brochure for a product that removes sulphur from water supplies in the US, and then a rewrite for a whole website in Switzerland.

"The Internet has provided me with the opportunity to start my own business, doing something I love, and I'd like to help others achieve the same."

Stewart's Lone Ranger celebration pages will be launched to coincide with the anniversary of the first radio broadcast, on 30 January.

Australian Writer Hits an Iceberg in Cyberspace!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

As Internet user numbers continue to increase, a writer from Down Under has come up against one of the hidden problems on the Web.

26 July 1999. Brisbane, Australia: Jennifer Stewart, from Writ101.com -l professional writing service - has hit one of the 'icebergs' in cyberspace - regional differences in spelling. "When I first began writing for a global market, "says Stewart, "I had numerous people contact me, pointing out the 'errors' in my spelling."

With an approximate 20 million plus users on the Internet, it's no surprise that many of these people would not have travelled or come across any writing other than from their own country. So it's easy to understand why many would regard their own spelling system as the only 'correct' one.

However, for professional writers, such as Stewart, this presents a dilemma - how to please everyone?

" I considered changing all my future work to make it fit with what my US-based spelling program was advising - but then realised that if I did, I would be contributing to the "greying" of the world," says Stewart.

"It's a bit like children's paintings - little tots start out with their beautiful bright colours - green, red, blue, yellow - but after a while, all they have is dark browny-grey!

Who wants to live in a grey world?"

Stewart says she has decided to celebrate these small differences while they still exist. "I'll continue to colour my little part of the world with my favourite way of spelling and hope that you realise I'm doing it because I'm from Australia - and not because I can't spell!" she says.

Cheryl Demas, publisher of the WAHM.com web site, says "If you're thinking about leaving the traditional workplace, "Stay Home with Your Kids Day" is the perfect opportunity to take a vacation day and give serious thought to making the change. Leaving your job may not be an easy decision, but if your heart aches every time you drive away from the daycare centre in the morning, it might be time to look at other options."

Jennifer Stewart has been running Write101.com - professional writing services - from her home since November 1998. "After leaving teaching, I decided that I still wanted to be involved with helping people to improve their writing, " said Jennifer. As Demas states, "If we can have a day to take our children to work, we should be able to devote one day to staying home with our children. While we realize that not all parents can or wish to be home full-time with their kids, WAHM.com is dedicated to giving advice and support to those who have who have found a way to make it work. Give it a try, ‘Mom’ can be the best job description you've ever had."
