Language is a feisty little
critter. Just when you think you've got it under control, it
turns around and bites you! The baker thought he had a winning
ad:
TRY OUR HOT PIES. YOU'LL NEVER
GET BETTER!
The baker's ad is ambiguous -
it could mean that if you "try his hot
pies", you will become so-o-o ill that "you'll never
get better!"
If you understand why
an error is made, you can avoid making similar mistakes in the
future.
