Having enjoyed reading your
biographical, They
can't take that away from me... I
would love to post your article (for my) course for
seniors entitled Autobiography and Journaling ... and
let them read your article as a good example of what
I call the reader's writer, clearly expressed and easy
to read. (Howell)
The French language has
always appealed to me ... so I enjoyed Lavinia's
experiences en
France! (Di Sullivan, Perth, Australia)
I am an American and an
expat here since 1990. I have been a subscriber to Writing
Tip for a few years now and look forward to the Friday
editions. I archive by creating topics of the tips
relevant to me and often refer. (Mary, Lagos, Nigeria)
WRITERS!
Write
Your Own Best Seller!
This
year, don't just read a best-seller ... Write
your own using the software program that works
in the same way J K Rowling writes her Harry
Potter novels!
Who said Aussies would
bet on two flies crawling up a wall? Now I know
better! (Bill Denham, Chicago, USA)
I enjoy reading your page
every week, Jennifer, it's never boring and there's always
something to bring a smile to my face! (Kenny Dima,
Tenerife, Spain)
Great newsletter -
originally found this site after searching for
clarification on a contentious
point amongst work colleagues. Just had to look at old
issues and now look forward to Fridays (Juliet Wallace,
Manchester, ENGLAND)
Language is a feisty little
critter. Just when you think you've got it under control, it
turns around and bites you! The baker thought he had a winning
ad:
TRY OUR HOT PIES. YOU'LL NEVER
GET BETTER!
The baker's ad is ambiguous -
it could mean that if you "try his hot
pies", you will become so-o-o ill that "you'll never
get better!"
If you understand why
an error is made, you can avoid making similar mistakes in the
future.
And that's just what my Writing
Tutorials do - they show you how language works and how to
make it work for you.
When I left teaching (after
twenty years teaching high school students), I still wanted to
be involved in education - so I wrote the tutorials, using all
the techniques I'd accumulated while in schools.
If you want help with the
basics, then Tutorial 1 will take you through all the
fundamentals; Tutorial 2 covers some essentials of vocabulary (so
you can sprinkle a few more of the million words in our
language into your conversation); Tutorial 3 shows you how to put
all the "bits" together - into sentences and
paragraphs - and then deals with everybody's favourite
...punctuation!
Tutorial 4 examines the best way to
write for different audiences and purposes (and gives a few
tips about spelling) while Tutorial 5 is especially for students
and shows you how to write essays (hardly a challenge when you
know how), how to research and write useful notes and how to
document your research.
Tutorial 6 is for business people
and looks at some of the more common pieces of writing you
have to do - reports, simple proposals and letters (including
how to respond to customer complaints and still retain your
sanity and the customer).
You can enrol in any or all of
these and you'll receive complete support - if you have any
problems or queries, I'm just a click away. An email message
will be answered within 24 hours.
Don't delay a moment longer,
every missed opportunity to make a good impression, is a lost
opportunity - order
your tutorials now!
