| How to Submit the Best Possible Application EssayOf the hundreds of thousands of applicants who apply every year, only around 7% are accepted into business schools. What makes those 7% successful? Much of the answer lies in their application essays. Read what you should put in your College Admissions Essay then start this Applications101 course. Over 100 pages that will make sure your application essay hits all the right buttons!
Admissions officials rely on these essays to determine who goes on to the next round of the selection process. So it doesn't matter how suitable you are for the program, if your essay fails the grade, you don't get to impress the professors! Once you've written your winning essay, don't forget to have it edited by a professional with over thirty years' experience in the field of education and writing and give yourself the best chance of success. What's Included in the Editing? Relevance - despite what you may think when you first look at the question, you're not being asked to "write whatever you know about X!" There are always clearly defined topics your essay must address and I'll make sure you focus on these. Content - the aim of your essay is to prove to the admissions officers that you're a real person who deserves to be accepted, so I check that your content includes specific details about your skills, interests and goals. Coherence - it's easy to see what you want to see when you write. You know what you've achieved and what you're capable of achieving, but when it comes to expressing all this in words ... sometimes it comes out as nothing more than a lifeless list of achievements. I check that your writing is readable and compelling as well as logically organised. Flow - every idea and point in an essay should flow logically and smoothly into the next. I check your work for the effective use of topic sentences, for abrupt changes in thought, theme or setting, and for the lack of links between ideas and paragraphs. Tone - while this is a formal piece of writing, it shouldn't be dull. Many applicants feel that because this essay is addressed to an admissions board it should be filled with jargon, long sentences, and lots of facts and figures. Nothing could be further from the truth - the admissions officers want to get to know the person who's applying. They already have your resume to find out what your achievements are. Voice - while I'll edit out any problem areas in your essay, I won't remove your personal voice. These will still be your words and your ideas ... maybe just changed a little! Technicalities (grammar and punctuation) - you are applying to an institution of higher learning, so you're expected to know the rules of your language. This means that your grammar, spelling and punctuation have to be correct. I'll edit out any technical errors in your essay. (Note: there are always subtle differences in House Style e.g. some schools use the serial comma; others don't. Let me know when you send me your essay and I'll edit it to suit the appropriate style. This also applies to spelling - non-US or US e.g. colour/color; organise/organize.) Editing Fee Schedule
