Improve Vocabulary

What tools can I use to improve my vocabulary?

That is a question that lurks in the mind of everyone who wants to improve vocabulary. Will software help me in improving vocabulary? The answer is yes, provided you choose the software carefully. One of the most popular vocabulary building programs (which we highly recommend) is Ultimate Vocabulary. If you get hold of an appropriate vocabulary builder, then it will surely help you in improving your vocabulary, but if you get stuck with a pseudo-vocabulary builder, then you may become exasperated and even abandon the idea of improving your vocabulary. However, the real question here is this: How do I know whether a vocabulary builder is genuine or pseudo?

How to determine the value of a vocabulary builder

  • Take a good look at the cover. Does the software let you create your own list of words? Say you come across a new word in a magazine and want to record it in the software for future reference. This is a good way to improve your vocabulary, but does your software allow you to add words? Pick up software that will allow you to make custom word lists. That will help you to learn more words than the software offers.
  • Software which uses different exercises like interactive, audio, video, voice recording etc. is best for improving vocabulary. The more variations there are in exercises, the better. They canít make custom-made software for every individual, but they do include multiple strategies to help every kind of user memorize words. In a sentence, check out what they are offering before you buy.
  • Nowadays, most software companies are placing emphasis on an easy to use, user-friendly interface. Still, read reviews about the product to find out whether what they are advertising is actually true. If you donít like the interface, then improving vocabulary will be like climbing Mount Everest!
  • It should be pleasing to your senses and interesting. This has got nothing to do with words, but the environment in which you will improve your vocabulary is as important as actually learning new words. You canít expect an Einstein from the Hitler family. If the color scheme appeals to you, if the screen makes you feel good and using the software is easy, then you can be pretty sure that your learning experience will be pleasurable.
