A Good Title Is A Work of Genius by Yanik Silver

Quick Tip

~ * ~

Greetings,

This week, Yanik Silver's article discusses how important it is to choose the words for any titles very carefully. The title (of your ebook, website, web page etc) is like the packaging on products in the shops. It's what attracts potential customers to your product, rather than to that of your competitor!

Adam Kling's contribution is a three-step guide to increasing your visitors and sales. So, armed with this information, you have a better chance of making your mark in cyberspace :)

After a magic weekend weather-wise, last week, we had over 200 mm of rain last night and winds gusting up to 125 klm per hour ... So much for boasting about our lovely Australian summer!

Regards,

Jennifer

A Good Title Is A Work of Genius

By Yanik Silve

That's what Emanuel Haldeman-Julius said about changing the
title of a book to increase sales. And he should know, he's
the guy who single-handedly sold more than 100,000,000
"little blue books" during the first part of the 20th
century (Yes, I said 100 million copies).

His book entitled "The First Hundred Million" gives a rare
glimpse into how to use certain tested title words to
increase your sales. In fact, his book is one of the most
scientific studies of what a title change can do for your
sales.

The most remarkable thing is that Haldeman-Julius simply
advertised his books by title alone. There was no selling
copy, only the title of the book. That's it.

So before you decide on any haphazard title for your next
ebook, manual, ezine article or free report, you might
want to take advice from this savvy marketer.

Haldeman-Julius had a policy in his business - if a title
didn't sell over 10,000 copies a year it was sent to a
place in his office called "The Hospital". Inside the
Hospital he went to work coming up with a new title for
the poorly selling book and re-releasing it. If the revised
title didn't sell, the book went into the 'morgue".

He tells about a book originally being titled "The Art of
Controversy" which never really sold until it was changed
to "How to Argue Logically" and then it leapt up to 30,000
copies. The amazing thing is that nothing else was changed
inside the book, just the title.

And from this "in the trenches" research, Haldeman-Julius
discovered certain title words that could increase the
sales of almost any book when applied. For instance the
words "The Truth About" increased sales for one book
starting its publishing life as "Patent Medicine". This
book by Dr. Arthur Cramp only sold 3,000 copies in 1925
but when the title was changed to "The Truth About Patent
Medicine" it rose up to a respectable 10,000 copies.

Therefore the words "The Truth About" are magical.

Next, he found the words "Life" and "Love" to work well.
Followed by the worn, but still very powerful phrase
"How To". Books with "How To" in the title were almost
always placed at the top of his sales list. Take for example,
the title "How to Psycho-Analyze Yourself" sold 43,000 copies
while a similar title "Psycho-Analysis Explained" sold 5,000
less copies. And the title "How I Psycho-Analyzed Myself"
managed to attract only 13,500 buyers.

What's more, Haldeman-Julius discovered the public was
(and still is) clamoring for facts. So the words "The
Facts You Should Know" proved a big winner.

So how can you apply this information?

Easy!

The way you should use this wisdom from the ages is by
applying it to titles, ebooks, ezine articles, free reports
and your headlines. For instance, if I was a cosmetic
surgeon I'd give out free ebooks like this: "The Facts
You Should Know About Liposuction" or "The Truth About
Laser Hair Removal" or "How To Erase The Years With Laser
Resurfacing". Each of these could almost be a headline by
themselves. That's what you want to strive for because
that's what people want!

How To Sky Rocket Your Website Sales - Uncovered
& Revealed In 3 Easy Steps!

by Adam Kling

Do you know how many visitors LEAVE your website
with questions completely and utterly ignored by you or
your customer service staff?

I'm talking about the EXACT same visitors who then move
on to your COMPETITOR'S site and TAKE ACTION!
Remember, they could have spent their money on YOUR
products or services, but it looks like you've blown it!

Don't you want to know WHY?

Why your prospects and potential customers are simply
dropping by leaving YOU profitless, with nothing but a
bear IP address buried in the memory of your server logs?

Only a few days ago, a fellow marketer approached me
with this very question... but I was embarrassed, I had little
to reply to my friend then, but still I knew that there WAS
an answer to this, an answer which would be worth
thousands, possibly millions in lost sales and profits!

Listen up carefully, because what I'm about reveal right
now is 3 steps which YOU can use to increase your
sales and profits right NOW!

1. ==>>  Your Website - DESIGN & STRUCTURE

o    When your visitors first get to your website, does it load
o    fast? Is it compatible with the main browsers such as
o    Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator?
o    I recently learnt that our site looks fine when viewed in
o    IE, but it was displayed badly in Netscape.

o    So check to make sure that your site operates well in a
o    broad range of web browsers and you are not 'closing-
o    your-doors' to a large percentage of your target market
o    who may not have similar internet access software as
o    what you are viewing your website in.

2. ==>>  The TEXT (or your 'Web COPY')

o    Okay, so you've got your site looking good in both
o    browsers and now you have your customer looking at
o    your website. Guess how long your customer has to
o    decide till they usually click somewhere OFF your site?
o    I think about 7 seconds. This is where your stats come
o    in handy...

o    If people are coming to your site and are only staying
o    for under a minute then you really have some problems
o    with your text on your website. I want you to think like
o    the customer and have a very small attention span.
o    This is usually the goal I stick to when writing the text.

o    Does it show what you and your company is are about
o    and what you're sell within first glance?  Is it easy to
o    navigate without thinking to hard? You should want
o    your site to just shout: "I sell this, this is why you
o    should buy it!!"  Then you can pull them into a more
o    detailed sales pitch.

o    So take them from your front page to your product
o    specific page or sales letter.  Now if you are just
o    selling one product, this can all be done on the first
o    page and is usually done so.

3. ==>>  The KEY to the ANSWER - INTERACTIVITY!

o    Great, you got past the hardest part. Now you have your
o    potential customer ready to order... now what?

o    Ask this to yourselves? Have you ever gone to a website
o    and have wanted to ask a question, but were too lazy to
o    hunt down the email address and type out a detailed
o    letter asking the question? You probably have been in
o    this scenario and are now wondering how many of your
o    potential customers also face the same situation.

o    I want to personally introduce you to the new world of
o    REAL interactive websites! This is just the beginning.
o    There is a product (Which I currently use) called Human
o    Click. In a nutshell it adds an icon to your site that your
o    customers can click to chat with you live.

o    Visit their website @ http://www.HumanClick.com for
o    more detailed information. There are also others such as
o    http://www.LiveHelper.com which is newer and has some
o    interesting features and also comes at a price, but there
o    are some things that it does not have that I want.

o    This is just the beginning for interactive support for your
o    websites.  I see a lot of products being developed for
o    this market that will simple make your jaws drop in new
o    sales because of the new functionality of your website.

There you go -- that's 3 simple steps to increasing YOUR
sales and profits by opening your doors to a LARGER
percentage of your target market, pulling your customers
in to your website through the use of PERSUASIVE copy-
writing and by providing live INTERACTIVE support to
your visitors!
